Abstract

The description is given of the installation design based on the device for microhardness measuring PMT-3 for studying the frictional and electrical characteristics of sliding contacts with an intermediate liquid-metal (LM) medium for electrical machines and apparatuses. The setup makes it possible to evaluate the frictional stability of the LM coating under the relative shear of solid contact parts, to determine the contact electrical resistance of intermediate LM media in the temperature range 20…250 °C. The comparative analysis of the possibility of using LM coatings formed on solid contact parts by various methods for sliding electrical contacts has been carried out. The advantage of an LM coating based on gallium and its eutectic alloys, obtained by mechanical processing of a solid surface of a contact part under a layer of liquid metal, has been proved.
